Twelve Miles Down US 180
Palo Pinto is the seat of Palo Pinto County, which surprises people who assume Mineral Wells holds that job. The town is small and unincorporated, sitting where US 180 meets FM 4, and it was called Golconda before it took the county’s name.
The 1940 limestone courthouse went on the National Register in 1997. The houses around it are some of the oldest we work on, and that’s the point — this is a town where a remodel is usually a rescue, not a refresh.

Old Houses, Done Properly
An old house in Palo Pinto has usually been added to more than once, and not always by someone who was going to have to live with it. We open things up before we commit to a number, because framing, wiring and plumbing out here rarely match what the last remodel left behind.
Being twelve miles away helps more than it sounds. Short trips mean we finish the punch list instead of leaving the last five per cent for a day that never comes.
- Kitchens and bathrooms rebuilt in houses that predate both
- Rotted subfloor and joists replaced before anything new goes on top
- Additions and porches tied into the original structure properly
- Walls, trim and texture matched to what’s already there
- Floors levelled over old pier-and-beam framing

Palo Pinto Remodeling FAQ
How far is Palo Pinto from Mineral Wells?
Twelve miles southwest on US 180. It’s one of the closest towns on our list, which makes it easy to come back for the small things at the end of a job instead of leaving them.
Is Palo Pinto the county seat, or is Mineral Wells?
Palo Pinto is. Mineral Wells is the bigger town by a long way, but the county courthouse sits twelve miles southwest of it — the 1940 limestone one that went on the National Register in 1997. It catches a lot of people out.
Our house is one of the old ones. Is that a problem?
No, it’s most of what we do out here. It does mean we’d rather open something up and look before quoting a number, because old framing and old plumbing rarely match what the last remodel left behind.
